You look to your left, you see a poster saying “It’s okay to not be okay”. You see

towards your right, you see people voicing out their concerns on social media about
how it’s time to destigmatize the notion of Mental health. The point is, we finally live
in a world where mental health is given almost the same importance as any other
physical ailments. Times are changing but there’s still a long way to go.

You’ve grown out of the concept of pleasing everyone and started doing what’s right
for you. You’ve stopped caring about what others think about you and started
enjoying your own company. You’re finally bequeathing “self-care” as your top
priority, not because others are saying so, but because you deserve it.

However, sometimes you need to remind yourself about your capabilities and
strengths. Get to know the small things that you can do to take care of your mental

health-

1. Don’t Go By The Calendar, Give Yourself a Mental Health Break

Whenever You Need It

We celebrate all kinds of days, from rose day to emoji day. Here’s us giving you a
reminder to take a day out for yourself too. Lucky for you, this doesn’t have to be
once every year, because let’s face it, you’ll go insane without any breaks.

Your body and mind will tell you when they need rest. Listen to them. Listen to your
body, it’ll tell you when it’s tired or sleepy. Listen to your mind, it’ll inform you if it
needs to socialize or go solo.

Coming back to the one-day-break concept, think of it as a medicinal practice.
Unwind and relax as much as you can so that you come back stronger!

2. Explore The World Beyond Netflix and Chill

Do you feel drowsy, exhausted and foggy when you wake up after spending the night
binge-watching a series on Netflix? Here us out- what might feel like a comfort show
is actually draining your energy more. It’s okay to watch during your leisure time, but
not at the cost of your sleep.

You can ditch this habit for one week and try substituting it with some recreational
activities instead. You can read a new book, call up your family, journal and plan out
your day, and much more.

Sometimes, those Netflix shows can serve as a therapeutic coping mechanism but
ensure that you’re not sacrificing your sleep.

3. Change Your Life By Including Activities You Do On Your Vacation

When we’re on holidays, we frequently adopt a more relaxed attitude toward things.
Instead of hitting the gym, you jump into the water or take a stroll instead. Rather
than going out to eat with old friends, you can host gatherings. What if we
incorporated some of that mindset and made it the norm as opposed to the
exception?

We’re talking about putting your mobile on DND during non-business hours,
10pm-7am. Or canceling gym and going for a run instead. These small things might

not give you the exact feeling of a vacation, but it will certainly help ease your mind
out.

4. Trust Us On This- Meditate! You’ll Feel The Difference

Who said only yoga instructors are supposed to be meditating regularly? You don’t
have to follow a particular profession to do something. It really doesn’t matter if you
fail or achieve nirvana right when you start it; the fact that you decided to dedicate a
few minutes decompressing and concentrating on your breathing is actually
commendable in itself.

If you don’t really know where to begin, simply sit silently and concentrate on your
breathing for two minutes- breathe in, breathe out. Gradually you can increase the
duration by five minutes and truly understand the connection between your mind and
body.

When In Doubt, Think Positive, But Prepare for the Negative!

Taking care of your mental health is becoming more and more popular. In the end,
it’s you who has to remind yourself that even when you’re surrounded by negative
emotions or feelings, you have the power to change it. You have the power to think
positively and be positive!

Give yourself small but significant reminders like “You’re not defined by your job”, or
that “You are loved and cared for.” If nothing seems to work, develop a healthy
coping strategy and listen to what Queen Beyonce has to say- Take a walk and drink
some water!
